19 Years and a Month Later…

Welcome to Achieve the Impossible Today! Working on getting into a routine with writing these blogs. Life has been a tad busier than it has been in awhile. I am happy with the change of pace. With that being said, still working on figuring out a blog schedule. I feel I would get an award for most inconsistent blog haha. Anyways, this week I wanted to write about my anniversary of my bone marrow transplant!!

Somehow, we have gotten to year 19 (and a month). I don’t think any of us knew what life would look like when I received that bone marrow transplant 19 years ago. But God has been with us through the whole journey and I am so excited to share where I’ve been to where we are now.

For those of you who do not know, I was born with a rare disease, Alpha Mannosidosis, and received a bone marrow transplant to stop the disease from progressing. This rare disease really affects every cell in the body. It affects primarily the brain and the bones. The disease is degenerative and will progress if not treated.

There are two treatment options available today that are still being studied, Enzyme Replacement Therapy & Bone Marrow Transplant.

When I was diagnosed, the only option for treatment was bone marrow transplant. My parents had seen what could happen if Alpha Mannosidosis was not treated and so they went with bone marrow transplant (and yes, it is super risky). Before transplant, I had many issues and life was filled with unknowns about the next day to come.

Some of the challenges I had were:
– moderate hearing loss
– developmental delays
– ataxia
– bone issues
– muscle issues

Now looking back, it is crazy to think of all of those challenges. Today, I still have several issues with my brain. Slowly, we are seeing healing happen.

Some of the things that are happening in my life at this moment that we never expected are:
– writing a book
– involved with Chi Alpha
– serving on the online experience team at church
– learning how to play guitar and sing
– Board member of ISMRD
– knitting, crocheting, and sewing items to sell

Right now, there is so much going on that I never even expected a year ago. I am so excited with where God has me right now in this season of life. He is moving in so many different areas and has completely changed everything in my life. The healing happening right now was thought to be impossible, but anything with HIM is POSSIBLE.

Thanks for stopping by and reading this blog! Make sure to follow Achieve the Impossible Today, so you don’t miss a post. I am working on posting more consistently. If you have any prayer requests, feel free to comment them or contact me. As always, He can and He will help you through everything, we just need to seek Him first.
