Faith Over Fear – Where’d You Go?

Over the next few weeks in this series “Faith Over Fear”, I will be speaking about recent times in my life when I’ve had to trust in God that He would provide and not let me fail in the things He has told me. No matter what I thought, I had to throw that away and trust in His timing alone.

Noticing Something

Hello! It’s been a tad longer than I had expected to continue this series. I was on vacation and had gotten the well known corona virus. My experience was essentially feeling like I had a sinus infection and sleeping a ton. It wasn’t super bad for me, just another virus. My health is back to where it typically is.

Through this experience, I’ve noticed something…my relationship with God is lacking. This isn’t something I am happy to share with y’all. I want to be completely honest and share where I am. I kind of left my Father hanging and I am thankful to be noticing that now! I have tried something new and I gotta tell you, I actually love it!!

Mornings

I don’t know about you, but I love the mornings. They are the beginning to a fantastic new day and are just so refreshing. They are great for getting those must-dos crossed off of your To-Do List before those pesky distractions start appearing throughout the day. I have always been an early riser and love starting my days with energy and giving thanks.

This past Wednesday morning, I started doing a bible study to kick-off my morning! It was honestly the best decision I have ever made. It catapulted into being a fresh restart for my morning routine. In the bible it says that we need to seek the kingdom of God first and I haven’t been doing that. Even though I have been failing in that part, God still accepted me with arms wide open.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33 NIV

Trying New Things

The newest part of this bible study for me was listening to a YouTube video to help me study the Word of God. I have never done this. I typically just read the bible without going super deep. If something hits me that’s cool. But with following along with a YouTube video instead this time, changed everything. I was able to comprehend what I was reading in a completely different way and was more interested in what I was reading.

The book I decided to start off with was Ephesians. Super good first chapter so far. It is now Friday and I am still working on the first chapter. It keeps hitting me everyday as I read through it and dive into another verse or two. Every time something hits me, I highlight it in my bible and then go on a deep scholarly search to get the true meaning of the scripture. I write down the verse on a notecard and write any information that I learn when breaking the verse down. That notecard then goes on my wall and I can look at it whenever I need to.

Below is the first group of verses that spoke so much to me. Out of this scripture I took away:

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will– to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

Ephesians 1:4-6 NIV

Out of this scripture I learned:

  • He loves us so much.
  • We were already thought of before we were born.
  • Holy- different and distinct from everything in common
  • Blameless- without blemish, faultless
  • Predestined- He chose us
  • Sonship- relationship w/ our Father
  • Glorious Grace- His love and unmerited favor that God gave us by sending His one and only son to die on a cross

This is just the start of me growing closer to God in my current season and I couldn’t be more excited for what He is going to teach me right now. It was weird picking up my bible and learning again because I felt alone and lacked the confidence in knowing that this is what I needed to do. Even when we may drift away, God is ready and waiting for us. We are His children and He loves us so much.

Faith Over Fear – Youth

Over the next few weeks in this series “Faith Over Fear”, I will be speaking about recent times in my life when I’ve had to trust in God that He would provide and not let me fail in the things He has told me. No matter what I thought, I had to throw that away and trust in His timing alone.

The Fall

Large crowds aren’t my thing.
Loud noises aren’t my thing.
Conversing with others is difficult.
Staying alert is difficult.

Let’s go on a field trip back in time to the fall. I was praying and God was placing all of these various things on my heart. A few months go by since writing those things down and someone at church had asked me if I ever thought about doing youth. I have personally always wanted to do youth, but the timing had never been right. I look back at what I had written in my journal back in the fall and what did I find?? Youth at church.

I completely forgot God had me write down youth. It was a huge surprise for me to find that written down in my notebook. Since Youth has always been something I’ve wanted to do, I start praying. I was specifically asking for a month to start going to Youth. I had gotten June and of course I got excited because that was only a few months away. It then set in… How am I going to do that in the state I am in right now? So, I asked for a few more days and God kept telling me June.

Youth! Cool, But How?

I was going to have to learn how to have faith that I would be okay for Youth. Youth is a combination of connecting with the students, being in a stimulating environment, and a few hours long. At this point, I was working on finding a new doctor for my brain stuff and wasn’t really sure where I’d be in June. I knew I wouldn’t be able to do this on my own and that I would have to completely trust God on this one.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 NKJV

As the months passed I was experiencing spaciness, tons of headaches, and “drunk” states. In all honestly, this wasn’t new. I started going to my new doctor consistently and I would say that my brain was healing during these months. Typically, my symptoms will get worse and then they will just disappear one day.

June 2nd

Are we ready God for Youth?? June 2nd was the first Wednesday of June, and it was gooooo time! The day consisted of a lower scale headache (good sign!!) and excitement. I was feeling amazing going into Youth. I spoke to some people just to fill them in with my current situation. I was unable to do one thing at Youth, but was able to do everything else without getting overwhelmed, being tired, or increasing my headache.

Youth on June 2nd was such a miracle from God. June 3rd was my birthday and I felt it was a birthday present from God. On my birhtday, I woke up with so much joy and peace from my Father. In this whole thing, He showed me that when I do the things He desires for me to do He will create a way. Things may seem impossible at the time, but if it’s God will, He will make a way.

Where We Are Now

I have been at Youth for over a month and a half now. I have only had one day where I was extremely tired and had to sit down for a tad. The experience of Youth is like nothing else and it is something that I would love to do for as long as God wants me doing it. Each week I go, God shows me something different and I am so grateful for everything that He is working on doing in my life and the lives around me.

I am not getting overwhelmed
I am not getting upset.
I am experiencing joy.
I am experiencing His presence.

All because of trusting in His promises

It may be hard to trust what He is telling you, but He keeps His promises. This has taught me the importance of trusting in His timing and giving Him the glory in all situations.

Wait for the Lord; Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 27:14 NIV

Where Have I Been? – Life Update

Life Happens

Life has gotten a tad crazy. Hence, me not writing anything for the past couple of months. I could bore you with every single detail, but I won’t do that! I will be writing about what the past couple of months have consisted of and where we are going in the future.

March Update

I haven’t written anything since March which is mind blowing! I am here writing this on the last day of June. For me, March was a very crucial month. I virtually went to a Tony Robbins seminar, started learning more about Alpha Mannosidosis (what I was born with), started process with new doctor for brain stuff, super involved with church activities, and read two books. There were a lot of moving parts to all of these exciting events.

April Update

For the month of April, it was incredibly awesome to see how God was moving through everything that I was doing during the prior months. We had gotten some answers in regards to what I feel on a daily basis due to my brain. I started going to my new doctor consistently, which has paid off! Chi Alpha ended for the school year which was a big sad. Started sewing again by making repairs to clothes. Wanted to read several books, but I did get to read one book!

May Update

Fast forward to May and it was a pretty non-eventful month. Went to the beach with my dad a few times, worked on establishing new friendships, and went to some bible studies for the last time. I sewed a dress (the one pictured) and threw a pretty awesome surprise graduation party for my mom. I did not complete any books, but was working on some.

June Update

We have finally made it to June! June has served us a plate of joy and peace with a side of frustration and tears. My birthday was June 3rd and I had the amazing opportunity to get involved with the youth ministry at my church the day before my birthday. I spent months praying for this day to happen and it was everything that I ever had wanted to experience. I had a blast and now I am an official youth leader. I’ve spent the month hanging with friends, playing tennis, and adapting to life. I also was able to complete one book! Fun fact: a day after my birthday, I started taking a social media break that will last the whole entire summer.

My doctor that I go to is very intelligent in what she does and is always looking into things if they aren’t looking right. We (my parents and I) found out that the way my brainwaves are…indicate a lack of blood flow in the left part of my brain. She believes it could be from what I was born with. With this new information, we are taking steps to help increase the blood flow. I am working on eating a clean diet, not overdoing it, and having low stress levels.

This past month I have switched from the typical American diet, but a tad healthier (organic foods) to a plant-based and gluten-free diet. In all honesty, I have been working towards this type of lifestyle since March. Maybe I will make some blogs about my plant-based meals?? For now here are some pictures 🙂

One of the most difficult things I am encountering at the moment is learning how to not overdo it. I have always had to work harder than the typical person due to the various cognitive issues I’ve experienced. Due to this, I am so used to pushing and constantly doing things. I am working on figuring out a routine that will allow me do things and enable me to not overdo it. It’s hard for me to know when to stop and when to keep going.

Next Steps

So… I said earlier in this post that it would also include some next steps and where we are going. With looking at my routine, I have come to the realization that I want to include writing. I absolutely love writing and it’s one of my passions that I did more! With saying that, I will definitely be writing more. Not exactly sure what you will find here, but you will find new posts! I will possibly try to post one blog every week (probably Friday afternoons), if not it will be one blog every other week.

I am looking forward to writing more, sewing, learning guitar, making food, and will be working on a page that will have information on what I was born with (Alpha Mannosidosis) shortly. I hope to have it up and running by September or October! I want it to be a space for people to learn about it whether they or their child has been diagnosed or for the everyday person to learn something new. Excited for all of these new changes!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post! If you have any suggestions on what I should make next, write about, or anything in general, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’ll see ya soon on the next blog post 🙂

Unleash the Power Within Day 4

This was the final day of the Unleash the Power Within seminar. Some of it I had missed, but what I saw was very transformational and special. There weren’t too many teachings on this day. Majority of the day consisted of various speakers. These speakers had the opportunity to share their personal stories and how they’ve overcome challenges. Here are some quotes from the lovely speakers!

If other people’s opinions can shift your “why”, it’s not powerful enough. -Jamie Kern Lima

Imagine breaking through the barrier of self-doubt and becoming the person you were meant to be. -Jamie Kern Lima

The biggest disability is a bad mindset. -Nick Santonastasso

The suffering stops when we serve something greater than ourselves. -Nick Santonastasso

I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be apart of one of Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within seminars! It was amazing being on Zoom with over 70,000 people. If you would like to see a quick recap video of the event, please click here.

I definitely know and understand that LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!

Unleash the Power Within Day 3

Slowly getting back into the groove of writing. Had a quick digression yesterday, but we are back to the Unleash the Power Within recap that I have been doing for the past couple of posts.

Hmmmm so day 3 was a super powerful day. The title of this day was Transformation. That title just sounds so intriguing!! Day 3 was a rather emotional draining day, but it was completely worth it. Here are some quotes 🙂

If you change what you associate pain to and what you associate please to — you can change your life.” -Tony Robbins

“Whatever you attach “I am” to you will become with enough emotion and will live that way.” -Tony Robbins

“The strongest force in human personality is need to stay consistent with how we define ourselves.” -Tony Robbins

The morning and early afternoon activities on the third day were setting up the stage for the Dickens Process. This was honestly one of my favorite parts of the seminar. To sum up with this process is, it is where you take limiting beliefs and turn those into beliefs that will serve your life. There are a lot of emotions that go on through this process, but when it is completed you feel amazing and it was a big celebration afterwards. Here’s a little outline of my limiting beliefs and how I changed them:

  • My challenges stop me from achieving what I wish –> My challenges allow me to have a new perspective and allow me to grow
  • My life is too complicated and complex for others to fully understand –> My life is inspiring and powerful.
  • My story won’t help others and isn’t powerful. –> My story will help others and give hope.

Wow today definitely was more of a emotional day. It was completely worth it. In the moment, I was not a fan of the Dickens Process, but it was life changing. I was able to imagine what would happen in life if I kept with those limiting beliefs I mentioned above. It was amazing to see the impact of the stories we tell ourselves. I now know I am free from those limiting beliefs and will be able to achieve the impossible.

Excited about the future possibilities.
Sandy is tired from all the noise she is experiencing while in my room during UPW.

Sunday Gratitude

Just some quick thoughts for tonight…

Im taking a break from going through the Tony Robbins event I went to and showing some gratitude on this Sunday night.

I’m extremely grateful for everything that has ever happened in my life. Life has not been easy my friends. Life for me has been filled with twists and turns; I’m sure you can relate as well. We may wonder why things happen in life. We can ask that question all we want and still not get an answer.

I’m still not sure why bad things happen in life. My life has been filled with medical stuff that I can’t even explain to you right now. I know that everything that happens to us serves a purpose. We have to go with the flow.

I’m so thankful for having a different perspective than my peers. We all go through different situations in life and everything shapes us into the people we become. If I didn’t go through my trials, I would be half the person I am today.

I’m so thankful for the people that I’ve been surrounded with. I haven’t always had the people who are in my life at this time period and that is simply okay. I’m thankful for every person I come into contact with. I’m so thankful to be growing the relationships currently.

I’m so thankful for the ability to experience food. This past year I’ve really come to find out that I love food shopping, connecting with food, and creating food. I’m still fairly new to creating food, but that is okay. I’m enjoying this journey!

I’m deeply grateful for the life I’ve been given. Life is simply a gift and isn’t guaranteed. There’s been multiple times within my life that I’ve almost died, but haven’t. I’m so thankful that I can still be on this earth spreading joy, peace, and love.

That is all for tonight, I am grateful for everything and anything that I have been able to do in my life. What are you grateful for? I’d love to know, feel free to comment below 😊

Unleash the Power Within Day 2

I am working on getting back into the groove of writing everyday. I am enjoying this little challenge during the month of March. I may have slacked for about a week, but I am back 🙂

I am really enjoying this process of looking back at my notes from the Tony Robbins seminar, Unleash the Power Within. The days were so packed with information, it was hard to comprehend everything all at once. Well here goes day number two. Below I have listed quotes, questions & answers, and my favorite activity of the day!

“Change is never a matter of ability. It’s always a matter of motivation.” -Tony Robbins

“Everybody’s got a past. The past does not equal the future unless you live there. -Tony Robbins

Change is never a matter of ability. It’s always a matter of motivation. -Tony Robbins

“I challenge you to make your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks of those people who live what they teach, who walk their talk. -Tony Robbins

Through the first day, we were working on finding our passion and learning how to build lasting momentum. If we do not know what we are passionate about, how are we supposed to keep going? We need a compelling future to give us fuel to keep going when life gets a little rough. Here are a few of the questions they had us going over along with a few responses I gave.

  1. What do you love?
    • people
    • opportunities
    • God
    • life in general
    • reading
  2. What do you hate?
    • complaining
    • car accidents
    • being late
    • guitar strings breaking
  3. What are you passionate about?
    • helping others
    • achieving the impossible
    • the brain
    • self development

Today was a more relaxed day than the first day. It was nice in a way to have a little bit of a break. I did feel tired because we were not jumping as much as the previous day. It was nice to figure out what I am truly passionate about in life. I am currently working on implementing 30 minutes of reading self-development books as well as reading the Bible in the mornings before my days start. If you want to see what day 1 was click here.

1,2,3…Another Week

Welcome!

Every Friday, I’ll be reviewing and reflecting on the hardest challenge of the week along with two Bible verses and three thoughts. Enjoy!

One Challenge

  1. Getting back to normal life – Last weekend, I was a part of Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within seminar. This event was amazing. We were constantly in a peak state and in an environment of growth. It was a fantastic experience, but going back to a life without that is a tad challenging. This week, I have been learning how to maintain the energy and good growth vibes.

Two Verses

  1. “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6 NIV
  2. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

Three Thoughts

  1. Reading no matter what – If you don’t know me, I have vision issues due to a brain injury. I was in a car accident a few years ago and one of my issues are my eyes. They will blur randomly when I read or do anything. I have become desensitized to them blurring. I love reading and am working on reading books everyday. I tried audio, but that was not cutting it for me. I am currently working on reading Atomic Habits by James Clear and Radical by David Platt. Both books are fantastic!
  2. Morning routines – I have not had a morning routine in a long time. I do the same things every morning, but do not have a set schedule for when I get up. I feel I am missing several hours of the day because I typically get up at 8am. This may seem early to some of you, but I would like to start getting up at 6am. I have a goal of being ready for my day by 8am, so I can achieve everything I would like to during my day and get ready for the coming months.
  3. School classes – This thought kind of goes with the above thought. I am working on picking my classes out for next semester. I took this semester off and kind of lacking a schedule. To complete my degree, I have a total of ten classes left. As of right now, it looks like I will be taking four classes that will be Tuesday-Thursday. The schedule is exciting me because of having a somewhat free school schedule. I am planning on doing my homework in the morning time after my morning routine.

If I added value, don’t forget to like and subscribe to read more of my blogs! I post a new blog every Monday & Friday. During the month of March, I am working on posting a new blog every day! Have a fantastic weekend 🙂

Unleash the Power Within Day 1

Wow… It is now a week and a day since I last posted. A week ago I was immersed in Unleash the Power Within by Tony Robbins. The virtual experience was like nothing I had ever been to before! I highly recommend going to one of his seminars if you ever have the chance.

There was a ton of information that I learned and still trying to process. I am redesigning my day to better fit my needs. A week ago, writing these blogs was one of the last things I did in my day. I am slowly making it to be a late morning/early afternoon task. Below I am going to share some thoughts and quotes about day one of Unleash the Power Within!

“We need compelling futures to help us to keep going through challenges.” -Tony Robbins

“Emotion is created by motion.” -Tony Robbins

“We all get what we tolerate. If we tolerate being depressed, we will be depressed.” -Tony Robbins

“Life is the dance between what you desire and fear the most.” -Tony Robbins

“Get in your head, you’re dead.” -Tony Robbins

Through the first day, we were asked to reflect on questions while in a peak state. When we are in a peak state, we will get the answers that are from our hearts. I am going to share a few of the questions. These are my personal responses. I have not included all of the questions, but have included some with the answers that my own body had come up with. What works for me might not work for you ❤

  1. What does an extraordinary life look like for you at the next level?
    • being 100% okay in my own skin and embracing who I am
    • being as authentic and joyful as possible
    • my goal is to show others that anything is possible
    • to continue adapting no matter the situation in life
  2. What needs to shift in order to get to that extraordinary life?
    • my emotional home
    • moving quickly to a peak state
    • adapting & being grateful
  3. What are your top two favorite flavors of suffering?
    • getting overwhelmed
    • feeling stuck
  4. What can you do to break the pattern?
    • getting overwhelmed –> breathe & smile, sit up, and take a minute to laugh
    • feeling stuck –> jump up & down, jam out to peak state music, think & adapt, and turn to God

At the end of the night, we did a board breaking exercise. For the time zone that I am in, it was 12am by the time we were doing this. You would think I would be super tired and out of it. I was a little out of it, but had lots of energy. I have posted several pictures below. The first day was absolutely amazing and just the beginning.

Preparation Day

Remembering to Breathe

Tomorrow I am starting a Tony Robbins virtual event called Unleash the Power Within. I’m super excited, but also kinda feeling a little nervous! This event is from Thursday-Sunday and ranges from 12-14 hours per day. It is a little daunting at first hearing how long the days will be, but also exciting at the same time.

Since this event is going to entail long hours, I spent four hours of my day in the kitchen preparing food for tomorrow. Preparing the food got me very excited because I know the food I will be consuming will be healthy and energizing for my body. I am working on being able to do this event with as few issues as possible. I want to ensure that my body has the energy that it needs for these long days.

Meal Plan for Next Four Days

The current plan is to drink 16oz of lemon water when I wake up. Do some stretching and feed my dog. I am working on building a habit of meditating for at least 30 minutes, so I will be meditating for 20 minutes tomorrow morning.

For breakfast, I will be fueling my body with eggs as well as yogurt and granola. I am not one to eat breakfast because I always forget somehow… I will be cooking eggs in the morning and keeping them warm until I get hungry. The yogurt and granola will also be eaten with the eggs and will be served with some sort of fruit option.

My lunches will be consisting of smoothies with ingredients of arugula, raspberries, peanut butter/nut butter, nutritional yeast, coconut milk with multigrain crackers on the side. I don’t want to eat something super heavy that would make me tired and thought smoothies would do the trick.

Thinking about my dinners makes me very excited! I used to eat the following meal for lunch every day a year ago! These meals will consist of chicken, rice, broccoli, red pepper, and hummus. All of the chicken and rice has been cooked and the vegetables have been chopped! I throw the container in the microwave for a quick reheat and throw the hummus on top. It is a super simple, yet healthy way to end the day.

Since I will be eating food that I am not 100% used to, I prepared!! In case I get hungry and need something to nibble on throughout the day, I have lots of snacks as well! These include: carrots, celery, string beans, bananas, strawberries, apples, trail mix, and bada beans. I may end of adding these foods with my other meals. Haha 🙂

Game Plan for Blogging

I will be involved in the event tomorrow, but I will still be posting a blog every single day! Instead of a super lengthy blog, I will be posting some of the highlights from the Unleash the Power Within Event each day. I am not 100% sure the end times of each day due to the event having the possibility of running over (which I’ve heard has happened in the past).

For now, if you have any thoughts on my food preparation or would like to add something that you do within your food preparation, let me know! I am always looking for new ideas and tasty food! Make sure to subscribe if you would love to see this month long journey of posts!! And remember, lets achieve the impossible today!
